Privacy Policy

The Electorate (theelectorate.ca) publishes interactive electoral maps and political information. This page explains what information is collected when you visit and how it is used.
What we collect
You do not need an account to use the site, and we do not ask for personal information to use the maps. The maps you build are not stored on our servers: when you press Share Map, the map is encoded in the link itself, and anyone who opens that link sees the same map.
If you contact us through the contact form, the details you enter (such as your name, email address and message) are collected through HubSpot and used only to respond to you.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, for example which pages are visited and what device types visitors use. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies and receives your IP address and browsing information. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including ads based on your earlier visits to this and other websites. You can manage personalised advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can also opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
Cookies
Cookies come from the analytics, advertising and contact form services described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the maps will still work.
Links to other sites
The site links to other websites, such as Elections Canada and our donation page. We are not responsible for their privacy practices.
Changes and questions
We may update this policy, and the date above will change when we do. Questions can be sent through our contact form.
